The Campaign for Female Education
On this trip I will be supporting the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) (registered charity number: 1029161). It is a charity dedicated to improving the education of girls in Africa, and in doing so, eliminating poverty.
Educating girls and women is widely recognised as the single most powerful weapon in the fight against poverty and HIV/AIDS in Africa. Since 1993, CAMFED has been supporting girls through school in some of the poorest rural areas of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana and Tanzania. In 2005, more than 246,000 children benefited from CAMFED's programme of educational support, helping them to leave behind a life of poverty.
In 1998 the Camfed Alumni was founded to support the girls once they finish secondary education. Now with a branch in the USA and endorsements from, among others, Morgan Freeman and Bill Clinton, the charity is continuing its mission to eradicate poverty through education.
It is a very worthwhile cause, and one which I hope I can add even a little bit of support to in the process of this adventure. Please donate what you can to this excellent charity, and help give an education to and change the lives of young girls in Africa.
